The Town of Canton has an immediate opening for the position of Public Works Driver/Laborer. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary and benefits. This position is responsible for maintaining roads, drainage systems, outdoor recreational facilities, and cemeteries throughout the Town, as well as general support for various community events. Duties for this position include snow plowing and removal, road and sidewalk repair, tree and brush trimming, and other duties as assigned. Extra hours are required during the winter season.
The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, team player with a high school diploma or GED equivalent, a valid Class B Maine Driver License (CDL), a clean licensed driving history, and the ability to lift heavy objects and to work in a variety of weather conditions. Prior experience with operation in or around heavy equipment and specialty equipment, such as a chain saw or dump truck, and a willingness to learn required. Applicants must also pass a background check and drug/alcohol screening.
